Joan Packer Isenberg Endowed Scholarship

The Joan Packer Isenberg Scholarship was established in 2010 by Joan P. Isenberg, EdD for graduate students majoring in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in the Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning (ASTL) program.

  1. The purpose of the ASTL Program is to develop the following: research-focused, student-centered teacher leaders whose teaching practice is aligned with the Five Core Propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS); teacher expertise in a selected content area; competent, knowledgeable, critically- reflective professionals who support P-12 learning, work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and communities; and teachers’ effective cultural and linguistic practices that impact student learning and support change agency in schools and classrooms. Using the four ASTL purposes listed, write a statement for the following prompts:
    • Provide evidence of how your ASTL coursework is helping you develop the critical knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for the highest quality of teaching and change agency.
    • Upon completion of the ASTL degree, what further plans do you have for continued professional learning, growth, and leadership that apply your ASTL knowledge? How will your ASTL degree impact the educational work that you do?
